An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Housekeeper to support the Emergency Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and hardworking Housekeeper who will contribute effectively to our team, ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment at all times.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work under non-direct supervision, prioritising their own workload
  • Flexibility to adapt to a continuously changing environment
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to engage with patients and staff at all levels

The role requires independent working, catering to the dynamic needs of the department while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and service.


Main Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • Daily cleaning and maintenance of the Emergency Department’s clinical and non-clinical areas, adhering to high hygiene standards.
  • Recognition of health and safety guidelines, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Basic IT literacy to support administrative and stock management functions.
  • Stock control—tracking inventory levels, placing orders as required, and monitoring supply availability.
  • Effective communication with patients, colleagues across departments, and clinical staff.
  • Proactive engagement in an environment that demands responsiveness and resilience.

Essential:

  • Prior experience in cleaning duties, including familiarity with chemical handling and equipment.
