Housekeeper – Newcastle

Hourly Rate: £13.45 Contract: Permanent, 15–20 hours per week Working Hours: Flexible shifts between 10am and 4pm (typically 4-hour durations)


About the Role & Vita Student

Vita Student is transforming student living across the UK and Spain with four flagship residences in Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, and Madrid. Each site offers modern, premium studios, lively hubs, 24/7 gyms, and dedicated study spaces—all supported by a welcoming, community-focused team.

This role is part of a brand-new team dedicated to maintaining the luxury, home-from-home standard for residents. As a Housekeeper, you’ll ensure studios and site facilities are immaculately clean, hygienic, and welcoming.


Key Responsibilities

Studio & Resident Support

  • Provide a personalised, high-standard cleaning service, including:
    • Dusting
    • Sweeping & vacuuming
    • Bedding change
    • Antibacterial surface cleaning
  • Work to scheduled schedules to maintain efficiency.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming environments for students.
  • Assist with waste management, adhering to health & safety regulations. Monitor and reorganise as needed.

Facility Upkeep & Incident Management

  • Ensure premium site and facilities stay in top condition.
  • Act as a first point of contact for any incidents or emergencies onsite.
  • Report unusual behaviour or welfare concerns immediately.
  • Respond proactively to challenges to deliver a seamless experience.

Technological & Administrative Tasks

  • Use a smartphone/tablet to:
    • Photograph studios before and after cleaning for quality assurance.
    • Record cleaning activities.
  • Track cleaning stock levels and assist in ordering supplies for the Assistant Residence Manager or Residence Manager.
  • Comply with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) when using cleaning chemicals.

Requirements

Professional Experience

  • Proven experience as a Housekeeper in large residences, such as:
    • Student accommodation buildings
    • Hotels
    • Hospitals
    • OR equivalent commercial/industrial cleaning roles
  • Familiarity with cleaning technologies and systems.
  • Strong knowledge of COSHH regulations.

Personal Characteristics

  • Excellent communication: English must be fluent, but multi-lingual skills are a plus.
  • Flexibility & adaptability: Be ready to handle challenges with a positive attitude.
  • Stamina: able to work with prolonged standing and repetitive movements (reasonable adjustments considered).
  • Resilience: adapt to 24/7 service demands, including bank holidays, festives, and religious breaks. Maintaining flexibility for coverage is essential.
