Location: Southend – Travel-based role (Monday–Friday) Salary: £37,000 + Bonus
Reporting to: Head of PRS and Head of Works and Compliance
Are you passionate about property compliance and ensuring homes are safe, well-maintained, and fully compliant? We are seeking a Housing Defects & Compliance Officer to join a leading property management organisation.
This is a hands-on role where you will:
- Conduct property inspections
- Identify defects
- Support maintenance teams in maintaining a high-standard property portfolio
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed inspections of void and occupied rental units, producing thorough survey reports on property conditions.
- Identify maintenance requirements and defects, recommending remedial and preventative solutions.
- Collaborate with the in-house maintenance team and external contractors to ensure accurate scheduling and completion of works.
- Monitor ongoing compliance with council licensing and Health & Safety regulations. Escalate high-risk or unresolved issues to senior management.
- Perform routine property inspections to detect early-stage defects and safeguard tenant welfare.
- Support the out-of-hours emergency line, providing 24/7 assistance to tenants for urgent maintenance or safety concerns.

Skills & Experience
- At least 2 years’ experience in property defect identification and compliance.
- Experience in property inspections, preferably within the Private Rented Sector (PRS).
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations and council licensing requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, able to liaise with tenants, contractors, and local authorities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to make informed decisions independently.
- Proficient in:
- Microsoft Word
- Excel
- Property software systems (e.g., MRI Evolution) beneficial (desirable)

Qualifications
- GCSEs in English and Maths (grade C/4 or above)
- Industry-related qualifications desirable but not essential
- Full UK driving licence required
