Housing Inspector
Summary Responsible for ensuring compliance with internal policy of construction program parameters for Community Development Department and Neighborhood Vitality Department, including client intake and all regulations concerning housing and construction projects. Pay Range: $19 - 20 (Depending on qualifications and experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Acquire relevant documentation from clients in application process and insure complete application file for approval by supervisor. Conduct initial on-site inspection with the property owner to document minimum housing issues, pictorial documentation, and the needs as well as the priorities of the client. Establish a comprehensive scope of work for contractors on which contractors can bid on the project. Create and audit case files, including inspection records, plans and specifications and provide technical assistance to resolve issues. Work with the Construction Supervisor to finalize the scope of work and to schedule the bid process. Schedule inspections, coordinate work between property owners and contractors, and collect necessary closing documentation. Maintain and audit project files, both hard copy and electronic, for project close out. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) 2 years related experience Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience 6 months advanced study past the high school level 2-4 years experience in housing inspections, code inspections or similar experience Property/Construction management, project coordination and construction experience preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Basic understanding for reporting and recording in software databases Comprehensive knowledge of basic business practices Comprehensive knowledge of standard inspection codes Comprehensive knowledge of state, local and federal housing regulations Skill in operating a personal computer Skill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Ability to adapt to variable working conditions Licenses and Certifications Valid Class C Texas driver's license Physical Requirements / Work Environment The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
