Housing Officer – South West (Home-Based in the Bristol Area) – Fixed-Term Contract (12 Months)

  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week
  • Salary: £33,000 - £35,000 per annum (+ business mileage)

About the Role

Are you a compassionate, professional, resilient, and adaptable individual with experience in housing management and supporting tenants with complex needs? Do you value a great work-life balance with flexible working conditions?

We are seeking an experienced Housing Officer to manage a portfolio of approximately 105 tenants in the South West (covering a temporary maternity leave), for a fixed-term period of 12 months. You will act as the key contact for tenants, their representatives, and partner agencies, providing overseeing support in areas such as building safety, tenancy performance, and neighbourhood issues to enhance tenant satisfaction, compliance, and outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Tenancy Management & Sustainment

    • Support tenants in sustaining tenancies, addressing concerns promptly
    • Manage tenancy performance issues, including unpaid rent and arrears (reaches)
    • Ensure appropriate lettings and voids processes, optimising home allocations
  • Income & Financial Sustainability

    • Assist tenants in maximising income through benefits access and financial advice
    • Work with tenants to maintain long-term financial sustainability

  • Building & Compliance Oversight

    • Ensure building safety and compliance with:
      • Landlord obligations
      • Fire safety regulations
      • Legal and statutory housing standards
  • Stakeholder Relationships

    • Build and maintain relationships with:
      • Care teams & support workers
      • Local authorities
      • Partner agencies (e.g., social services, health teams)
  • Community & Service Improvement

    • Lead resident engagement initiatives
    • Contribute to service improvements and performance monitoring

Requirements

  • Essential Experience:

    • Extensive experience in housing management, including tenancy sustainment and anti-social behaviour (ASB) resolution
    • Demonstrable skills in building trust with vulnerable adults, including support for individuals with:
      • Learning disabilities
      • Autism
      • Mental health concerns
  • Key Knowledge & Competencies:

    • Deep understanding of specialist supported housing regulations, including:
      • Landlord and tenant rights/responsibilities
      • Housing legislation
      • Safeguarding processes
    • Proven ability to handle challenging situations with empathy and professionalism
    • Strong prioritisation skills, enabling independent work
    • Caseload management experience

  • Technical Requirements:
    • IT literate, with comfort using case management systems
    • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle (schemes located across the South West)
    • Flexibility to attend mandatory training, including monthly visits to Headquarters in Salford
