Come and make a difference at Karbon as a Housing Officer
We're looking to appoint a suitably experienced individual for the role of Housing Officer within the Area 3 Housing Team. This team covers general needs housing within the Newcastle & North Tyneside areas.
About The Role
We're looking for someone who combines a positive attitude with strong communication and relationship-building skills. You'll be confident working with customers and colleagues, helping to deliver services that make a real difference in our communities.
As a Housing Officer, you'll undertake customer visits, manage low-level anti-social behaviour cases, carry out estate inspections and oversee void management, including the allocation and letting of homes.
You'll be organised, able to manage competing priorities and comfortable using a wide range of IT systems. Above all, you'll be someone who can build trust, communicate effectively and put customers at the heart of what you do.
About You
You should have excellent communication skills and the ability to plan and prioritise your own workload often working to targets and tight deadlines. You will be part of a team but the role does require the ability to work on your own initiative and carry out lone working in the community and in customer's homes. Previous knowledge and experience within a social housing environment, housing legislation and knowledge of welfare reform changes would be an advantage.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
