Are you an experienced HR Practitioner?
Are you able to deliver a comprehensive HR service to a range of customers facing a range of differing challenges?
About The Role
As a HR Adviser - Performance Management, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive HR advisory service to managers across the Council, helping them to address workforce issues confidently, consistently and in line with Council policy, employment legislation and best practice.
A key part of the role is providing practical advice, coaching and hands-on support to line managers managing complex casework, including attendance management, performance management, probation and ill-health matters. This includes supporting meetings and hearings, assessing risk, advising on appropriate outcomes, and working with senior managers, HR colleagues, legal colleagues and trade union representatives where needed.
The role also contributes to the wider improvement of people management practice across the Council. This includes delivering training, coaching and knowledge-sharing for managers, supporting the review and development of HR policies and guidance, participating in job evaluation panels, and helping to design and evaluate interventions that improve attendance, wellbeing and employee productivity.
In addition, you will also be required to use data and insight to identify trends, produce reports and support informed decision-making. You will work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to support wellbeing initiatives, attendance management campaigns and continuous improvement across the HR service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
