HR Generalist (Standalone Site Representative) – Gates Corporation

About the Role

Lead manufacturer of application-specific fluid power and power transmission solutions. Do you thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment that challenges the status quo? Gates pushes the boundaries of material science to deliver innovative solutions. Imagine belts and hoses—critical components in motorcycles, conveyor belts, cars, tractors, blenders, vacuum cleaners, bicycles, and 3D printers. With one comprehensive HR remit, you’ll drive operational execution and strategic support across an entire site.

Position Summary

You’ll act as the standalone HR representative, delivering an all-encompassing service including:

  • Operational execution (people initiatives, compliance, day-to-day functions)

  • Strategic support (advancing business objectives with HR insights)

  • Close partnership with site leadership

  • Full autonomy in managing HR activities from recruitment to employee relations:

    • Recruitment & Onboarding: End-to-end hiring and induction for site roles
    • Employee Relations: Handling disciplinary cases, grievances, and investigations
    • Payroll & Benefits: Administration, compliance with HMRC, and benefits coordination
    • Learning & Development: Training coordination and employee upskilling programs
    • Wellbeing & Absence: Occupational health liaison and leave policies
    • HR Systems: Maintenance of Oracle/People Inc, ensuring GDPR compliance and data integrity
    • Reporting & Analytics: Production of HR reports, dashboards, and KPI tracking
    • Engagement & Culture: Initiatives supporting employee retention and motivation
    • Legal & Regulatory Compliance: Continuously aligning with UK laws and internal frameworks

Partaking in site management meetings to provide HR-led insights that drive business decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Primary HR Point of Contact: Key liaison for all site employees and management
  • Expert guidance: Support decision-making on disciplinary actions, grievances, and investigations
  • Full-cycle recruitment: From attraction to onboarding and induction processes
  • Payroll & Benefits: Monitor and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations
  • HR Information Management: Upkeep of systems (Oracle, People Inc) with secure GDPR and data accuracy adherence
  • Data-Driven HR: Interpret and communicate outcomes via reports and KPIs
  • Health & Wellbeing: Coordination of occupational health and leave processes
  • Policy Development/Implementation: Creating and maintaining HR policies aligned with UK/EMEA frameworks
  • Employee Growth: Lead training development, planning, and record-keeping
  • Organisational Engagement: Spearhead initiatives to foster employee wellbeing and alignment with company values
  • Strategic HR Insights: Provide input at management meetings to support business growth

Keys to Success

  • Independent HR ownership:Ability to manage full HR remit autonomously
  • Real-time HR compliance: Expertise in UK employment law and HR best practices
  • High-stakes stakeholder relations: Skilful influencing across all organisation tiers
  • Precision in detail: Exceptional organization and analytical capabilities
  • Confidentiality: Unconditional discretion in sensitive matters
  • Relationship-building: Credible rapport with employees and leadership at every level

Requirements & Preferred Skills

Essential:

  • Proven HR experience: History of acting as a HR Generalist or standalone HR representative
  • UK Employment Law: Deep knowledge and consistent application thereof
  • Employee Relations: Strong track record managing casework, grievances, and investigations
  • Payroll expertise: Proficient experience with HMRC requirements and payroll systems
  • Technical proficiency: Familiarity with HRIS such as Oracle/People Inc and Microsoft 365
  • Global Certification: CIPD Level 5 qualification (minimum)

  • Degree access: Undergraduate degree in HR, Business, or related field
  • Multi-site exposure: Prior support for multi-location operations

Travel

  • Occasional in-country travel with the responsibility to support other Gates sites
