HR Advisor – Employee and Industrial Relations


Location: Highbury Campus, Sixth Form Campus, North Harbour Campus and Arundel Campus

Salary: £26,494.86 - £30,248.30 per annum (Full-Time Equivalent)

Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (Permanent)

About the Role

The HR Advisor – Employee Relations ensures fair, efficient, and legally compliant HR support. This generalist HR post focuses on:

  • Advising managers and staff on employment practices
  • Handling absence and capability cases
  • Assisting with disciplinary and grievance procedures
  • Building a consistent, performance-driven culture

Key focus areas:

  • Supporting managers' decision-making with HR expertise
  • Maintaining disciplinary records and litigation defence
  • Aligning with College policies, employment law, and best practice

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality HR guidance to managers on all people-related matters
  • Manage and escalate low-level employee relations cases
  • Conduct investigations, document findings, and advocate for fairness
  • Prepare meeting packs, liaise with appeals, and enforce procedural proper safeguards
  • Counsel on HR policies, employment law, and policy amendments
  • Draft professional case documentation (e.g., investigation reports, hearing follow-ups)
  • Oversee case workflows, ensure compliance, and propose policy improvements

Requirements

Essential for success:

  • Proven Employee Relations / HR Business Partner expertise (formal training via MIHR Chartered Institute of Personnel Development is advantageous)
  • Drive for continuous professional development
  • Strong ** communication, confidence in marshalling, and time management** skills
  • Solid grasp of employment law and relevant Microsoft Office tools
  • Experience demonstrating through case studies or workplace examples
