HR Advisor

Location: Elland, West Yorkshire (Hybrid working – one/two days in the office)

Role Type: Full time, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)

About the Role

We believe great HR isn’t just about policies or processes – it’s about understanding people, building trust, and providing reliable support to our teams. Now, we’re looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join our People Services Team in a hands-on, dynamic role. This is an opportunity where your ideas can make a real difference—if that’s what you’re searching for, we want to hear from you.

Duties and Responsibilities

You’ll provide expert HR advice and guidance aligned with Marshalls’ practices and procedures, covering:

  • Employee Relations:

    • Managing performance and absence cases
    • Handling disciplinary or grievance proceedings
    • Conducting investigations when necessary
  • Supporting Management:

    • Acting as the go-to HR consultant for managers across our UK sites
    • Coaching leaders on best practice, UK employment law, and casework end-to-end
    • Responsibilities include:
      • Taking notes in formal meetings
      • Leading the drug and alcohol policy process
      • Training new managers (e.g., HR introductions)
      • Supporting occupational health referrals
      • Maintaining strong relationships with unions and site representatives

  • Strategic Engagement:
    • Collaborating with HR teams on company-wide objectives
    • Updating case logs, analysing absence data, and managing projects
    • Providing senior HR support during:
      • Change management initiatives
      • Complex ER issues
      • Policy reviews/high-level decision-making

This is a hybrid role with one to two scheduled office days at Elland, plus flexibility to visit UK manufacturing sites for in-person support.


Requirements & Skills

To succeed in this role, you should possess:

  • Proven experience in handling a varied, high-pressure ER caseload in a dynamic industrial setting (unionised preferred)
  • Deep knowledge of UK employment law and its practical application
  • A track record of advising managers on policy and case progression
  • Strength in:
    • Consistency and accountability – managing workloads, setting boundaries, and escalating risks promptly
    • Coaching, influencing stakeholders, and challenging decisions professionally
    • Process improvements (e.g., efficiencies in case-loads or compliance)
  • Delivery of HR workshops/training (e.g., manager induction sessions)
  • Strong logistical skills (track absence triggers, maintaining records, workload prioritisation)
  • Commitment to ongoing learning (CIPD Level 5 or equivalent highly desirable)

Ideally, you’re self-starter with a solutions-focused mentality.
