About the Role
We’re excited to introduce an HR Apprentice to join our Employee Relations team. You’ll play a key role in supporting HR initiatives, fostering strong relationships with employees and stakeholders, and helping shape company objectives aligned with our annual plans.
This is a paid National Apprenticeship role with a fixed-term contract of 12–18 months, at £8.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
Supporting the Employee Relations team, the HR Apprentice will handle a diverse range of administrative, reporting, and collaborative tasks, including but not limited to:

Employee Administration
- Prepare and issue employment contracts for new hires and ensure new starter packs are sent entirely within deadlines
- Manage contractual changes for existing employees, ensuring all documentation is accurate and compliant
HR System Support
- Update employee records, including personal changes and employment history
- Provide general HR system support, such as onboarding new starters in the payroll system
HR Inbox Support
- Respond promptly and accurately to employee inquiries via HR email
- Categorize support requests for efficient team distribution
Audit & Compliance Support
- Assist in internal audits to maintain compliance with employment laws and company policies
- Ensure adherence to best practices across HR processes
Employee Relations Trackers
- Weekly updates to Employee Relations trackers, including:
- Maternity leave requests
- Sickness absence records
- Flexible working arrangements
- Maintain data accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality
Reporting & Analytics
- Assist in preparing regular HR reports:
- Weekly headcount updates
- Overdue probation reviews
- Employee turnover statistics
- Engagement survey results
- Support data-driven decision-making via reports
Leaver Processing
- Oversee employee departure administration:
- File personnel documentation
- Update HR systems
Meeting Documentation
- Take precise and confidential notes during Employee Relations meetings, including:
- Investigations
- Disciplinary procedures
- Grievances

Additional Admin Tasks
- Perform reference checks for core store teams
- Verify right-to-work documentation for new hires
- Manage employee uniforms, coordinating orders and distribution
Qualifications & Skills

Core Requirements
- Interest in Human Resources (theory or practical, passion matters!)
- Analytical mindset: Strong ability to evaluate data from Excel and other sources, translating insights into clear reports and audits
- Attention to detail: Precision in processes is non-negotiable
Technical Skills
- Microsoft Outlook & Excel proficiency
- Adaptability to learn new HR systems and tools
Soft Skills
- Strong communicator: Confident interacting with employees, colleagues, and leaders across the organisation
- Creative problem-solver: Thinking outside the box to find effective solutions
- Highly organised: Ability to prioritise tasks, juggle multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines under pressure
