HR Assistant
HR Assistant – Full Time | Cheltenham College
Grade C (£26,400–£28,200 per annum, dependent on experience) Full Time: 37.5 hours per week Location: Cheltenham College
Cheltenham College is seeking a friendly, professional, and highly organised HR Assistant to join our well-established HR and Payroll Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to support recruitment and onboarding in a role that combines variety with meticulous attention to compliance, safeguarding, and an outstanding candidate experience.
The Role
Working closely with the Recruitment Manager and the wider HR & Payroll Team, you will provide essential support across all stages of the recruitment lifecycle, from advertising to onboarding.
Key Responsibilities

Recruitment Support
- Advertise vacancies and coordinate recruitment campaigns.
- Process applications and respond to candidate enquiries professionally.
- Welcome interview candidates, ensuring they feel relaxed and supported throughout the process.

Pre-Employment & Safeguarding Compliance
- Complete pre-employment and safeguarding checks in line with Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) requirements.
- Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory obligations.

Onboarding & Induction
- Assist with induction and probation processes to deliver an excellent welcome to new colleagues.
- Support managers in integrating new staff effectively.

Administrative & Process Improvements
- Provide professional HA/R support to the wider HR Team.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for recruitment and HR efficiency.

Progress Opportunity
- With experience, take ownership of recruitment for support staff roles, managing the process from advertisement to appointment.
About You
We are looking for someone who excels in administration with a human touch—balanced by strong organisational skills, detail orientation, and empathetic communication.
Essential Requirements
- Proven excellent administrative and organisational skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong IT proficiency, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, able to:
- Build rapport quickly with candidates.
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions.
- A warm, friendly, and positive demeanour when engaging with colleagues, candidates, and visitors.
- Ability to prioritise tasks efficiently while maintaining accuracy under pressure.
- Discretion and reliability in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Proactive, flexible approach with a willingness to learn.
Advantageous (but not essential)
- Experience in a highly regulated or compliance-focused environment (e.g., education, healthcare, finance).
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
