Position Description

As an HR Consultant within our Global Business Services Hire to Retire team, you will play a key role in delivering an exceptional colleague experience by providing trusted HR guidance across the UK, Australia and Ireland. This is a hybrid position.

Your future duties and responsibilities

In this role, you will provide expert HR advice and guidance to leaders across the UK, Australia and Ireland, with a particular focus on absence management and associated HR policies. You'll act as a trusted partner, managing complex employee cases, supporting business-critical HR processes, and ensuring a high-quality service that delivers positive outcomes for colleagues and leaders alike.

You'll work closely with HR Business Partners, offshore Global Business Services teams, payroll, third-party providers and other key stakeholders to maintain service excellence while identifying opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency and support ongoing transformation initiatives. You'll be encouraged to take ownership of your work, contribute ideas that improve the employee experience, and develop your expertise within a collaborative and supportive team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advise & Support leaders on absence management, family leave and HR policy in line with UK legislation and company procedures.
  • Manage & Deliver end-to-end absence processes, including the Group Income Protection Insurance lifecycle.
  • Resolve & Escalate complex HR cases relating to absence, benefits, payroll, policies and operational processes.
  • Collaborate & Influence with HR Business Partners, offshore teams, payroll and third-party providers to deliver consistent, high-quality HR services.
  • Monitor & Improve payroll inputs, investigate queries and ensure accurate processing.
  • Achieve & Maintain agreed service levels and operational performance targets.
  • Enhance & Optimise HR processes by identifying opportunities for standardisation, automation and continuous improvement.
  • Support & Test HR system enhancements through User Acceptance Testing (UAT) linked to legislative, policy and business changes.
  • Protect & Maintain confidentiality while exercising sound judgement when handling sensitive employee information.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

To succeed in this role, you'll bring strong operational HR experience, excellent knowledge of UK employment legislation, and the confidence to manage complex employee relations and absence-related matters. You'll be an organised, proactive professional who enjoys solving problems, working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, and contributing to continuous improvement within a fast-paced shared services environment.

You should have:

  • Proven experience in an HR Advisor, HR Consultant or HR Shared Services role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation, particularly absence management.
  • Experience managing complex HR cases and providing practical advice to leaders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience working with HR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and meet service level agreements.
  • Experience supporting HR system changes, process improvements or transformation initiatives.
  • A professional, discreet approach when handling confidential and sensitive information.
