Human Resources (People Director) – Fractional Consultant Opportunity


Join and Collaborate Amongst Like-Minded HR Directors

Located in the West Midlands, supporting clients across Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton (Wolverhampton), and surrounding areas.


About the Role

You are:

  • A highly successful CPO, CHRO, People/HR Director, or Senior HR Consultant
  • Passionate about helping businesses unlock their potential while driving impactful HR solutions that change lives
  • Eager to break away from corporate life and enjoy working with SMEs and entrepreneurial leaders
  • Skilled at balancing technical HR expertise with an intuitive grasp of business strategy, seamlessly integrating People strategies with business objectives
  • Open to a more flexible working arrangement, where earning potential aligns directly with the number of days worked
  • Thrilled by collaborative environments that empower like-minded HR directors to support one another and business owners/boards
  • Confident in influencing at board level, acting as trusted advisors with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Poised to exceed expectations and consistently 'wow' both clients and colleagues

Your Impact

As a Fractional HR Director, you’ll be the catalyst for action, delivering innovative, commercially viable HR solutions that drive:

You’ll lead a portfolio of clients, work closely with the Regional Director and marketing team to attract new business, and strive to elevate People Puzzles’ reputation as trusted HR advisors.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver tailored HR solutions aligned with client needs, from strategic high-level advice to hands-on implementation.
  • ** Forge strong partnerships** with boards, business owners, and teams to embed HR as a driver of growth.
  • Grow a consultancy philosophy: "Come as an HR expert, leave as a trusted business coach".
  • Embrace flexibility: Manage client work with customizable hours, balancing on-site client time with internal team support.
  • Collaborate with a dynamic team: Bring energy, ideas, and shared commitment to a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

Core Skills & Experience

✔ Proven success in partnering with senior executives and shaping HR strategy at board level. ✔ Exceptional business consultancy skills: Enabling you to spot opportunities, influence decisions, and add commercial value to HR initiatives. ✔ CIPD (L7) or equivalent qualification is desirable but not mandatory. ✔ A "people person" with natural leadership ability, excelling at team development, relationship-building, and influence. ✔ Engaging with medium-sized businesses: Credibility in guiding entrepreneurs and owners with data-driven solutions. ✔ Tech-savvy with an enthusiasm for growth: Comfortable adopting AI tools, innovative workflows, and modern HR platforms. ✔ Commercial mindset: Thinking like a business leader who happens to do HR, capable of seeing the big picture and translating strategy into action.

✔ Pragmatic, versatile approach: Willing to adapt, roll up your sleeves, and "get stuck in" when needed—while maintaining big-picture vision.

Location Flexibility

  • While onsite client work is required in Birmingham, Coventry, and Wolverhampton areas, there is some scope for remote hygiene cases.
