Job Description

About Us

Fusion, the process that powers the sun and stars, is one of the most promising options for generating the cleaner, carbon-free energy that our world badly needs. UKAEA leads the way in realizing fusion energy, partnering with industry and research organisations to achieve ground-breaking advancements. Our goal is to bring fusion electricity to the grid by developing the power stations of tomorrow and the skilled workforce to deliver them.

About the Job

As HR Governance & Business Support Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the People, Culture & Skills function operates with strong governance, effective assurance, and high-quality business support. Working closely with senior leaders, you'll shape governance frameworks, oversee policy and audit activity, and provide the reporting and insight that supports confident decision-making. This is an opportunity to influence how the People function operates across UKAEA, helping ensure it remains compliant, efficient, and equipped to support organisational growth as we deliver the future of fusion energy.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of governance and assurance frameworks across the People, Culture & Skills function.
  • Oversee the review and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, and governance documentation, ensuring compliance with legal and organisational requirements.
  • Lead HR audit, assurance, and inspection activity, coordinating responses, and implementing recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain HR performance dashboards, KPIs, and management information to support strategic decision-making.
  • Lead business planning activities, including workforce planning inputs, resource planning, budget coordination, and professional development reporting.
  • Identify and manage governance risks, maintaining effective risk registers and mitigation plans.
  • Prepare high-quality papers, briefings, and submissions for boards, committees, and senior leaders.
  • Build effective partnerships with Finance, Legal, Internal Audit, and other corporate functions to strengthen governance across the organisation.
  • Lead and develop a small team while driving continuous improvement across HR governance and business support activities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
