HR Manager
Position & Structure
Role: HR Manager Department: Human Capital Management Working Hours: 35 hours per week (Mon–Fri, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM) (Additional hours as required)
Reports To: Director of HR, Europe Collaborates With:
- Senior HR Manager & wider London HR team
- Global HR teams (one-team approach)
- Partners, associates & business service professionals
- External vendors
About the Role
This is an *all-encompassing role reflecting general duties that may be adapted as business needs evolve. The HR Manager partners with the Director of Human Resources, Europe, to deliver comprehensive HR services across London while collaborating with the global HR team.
As the trusted advisor to leadership, the role provides strategic guidance on:
- Employee relations
- Performance management
- People-related risk mitigation
Additionally, responsibility extends to managing complex employee relations cases, developing management leadership, and aligning HR strategies with organisational objectives.

HR Business Partnering
- Partner with stakeholders to deliver HR solutions that align with organisational objectives, driving:
- Workforce effectiveness
- Talent development
- High employee engagement
- Leverage people data to guide decision-making and improve business performance
- Provide expert strategic advice on people and organisational challenges

Employee Relations
- Lead & manage critical employee relations cases, including:
- Disciplinary, grievance & capability processes
- Bullying/harassment claims & workplace conflicts
- Absence management & exit planning
- Conduct independent investigations and ensure outcomes meet legal compliance, fairness, and consistency
- Provide evidence-based best-practice guidance on policies and employment law
- Anticipate trends, monitor risks, and propose proactive interventions
- Maintain reliable HR documentation for key cases
Employee Engagement & Culture
- Drive initiatives to enhance employee engagement and reduce turnover
- Partner with leadership to strategically improve workplace culture and retention
- Cultivate a positive, collaborative organisational environment
Training & Development
- Diagnose learning gaps through consultation with leaders, workforce analytics, and business planning
- Organise and coordinate internal/external training programs to upskill:
- Leaders (customised to individual needs)
- Teams
- Organisational structures

Requirements
Experience
Minimum 5+ years specialising in employee relations within a law firm context.
Core Competencies:
- Deep knowledge of employment law and HR best practice
- Expertise in:
- Investigating sensitive matters from initiation to resolution
- Managing disciplinary procedures, grievances, and settlements
- Coaching and influencing leadership across all levels
- Stakeholder management and conflict resolution
Attendance
- Hybrid schedule: 3 days in London office, 2 days remote
- Non-negotiable: Punctuality, consistent on-site presence (as dictated by case load)
Technology Proficiency
- Essential: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) – proficient user
- Preferable: Hands-on experience with HR Hub and Greenhouse talent acquisition software
Note: This role is designed to support London’s HR team to elevate organisational performance and mitigate risk while embedding best practice in employee experience.
