HR Officer

HR Officer – Newcastle Carers Centre

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours/week, permanent Location: Newcastle upon Tyne Salary: NJC pay scale 13–16 (£29,064 to £30,518) Closing date: 9am Wednesday 15th July Interview dates: Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th July


About the Role

Work with Newcastle Carers – join our team as an HR Officer!

We’re looking for an experienced, approachable and flexible HR Officer who’s passionate about supporting our staff to deliver outstanding service to unpaid carers across Newcastle. This role is proactive and vital to ensuring Newcastle Carers remains a great place to work.

You’ll work closely with the Finance & HR team, aligning with our core values of being empowering, inclusive, people-focused and empathetic, while overseeing a range of HR activities, from day-to-day administration to fostering a positive, supportive workplace culture.

The role is based at Newcastle Carers’ office and will involve essential (but not limited to) the responsibilities outlined in the full job description.

We support adults, children and young people who care for someone in Newcastle upon Tyne. Our services are:

  • Free, confidential and non-judgemental
  • Focused on helping carers to make their situation more manageable

We are dedicated to ensuring every carer—including children and young people of primary school age—has access to professional support, information and guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting staff to deliver consistent, high-quality care to unpaid carers
  • Managing day-to-day HR operations, ensuring compliance with policies and good practice
  • Acting as a point of contact for HR queries, responding clearly and empathetically
  • Partnering with the organisation to maintain an inclusive, supportive and collaborative culture
  • Assisting in administrative planning and, where applicable, contributing to confidential welfare checks (if relevant)

Requirements

We welcome applications from candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Proven experience in an HR role, with knowledge of current best practices and statutory procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, including awareness of emotional intelligence when supporting colleagues
  • Adaptability and problem-solving ability, balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • IT literacy, with confidence in using HR software and data management tools
  • Strong organisation and self-management skills, including time prioritisation
  • Sound numeracy skills for handling HR-related data and payroll tasks where required
