A successful and highly regarded secondary school is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented HR Officer to join its team on a one-year fixed-term contract. The Role
As HR Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of the school's HR function, ensuring compliance, safeguarding standards, and efficient employee administration across the entire employee lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
- Managing recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
- Conducting safer recruitment checks, including references, DBS checks, right-to-work verification, and qualification checks.
- Maintaining accurate employee records and personnel files.
- Ensuring the Single Central Register (SCR) remains fully compliant and up to date.
- Supporting absence management processes and return-to-work procedures.
- Monitoring probation periods and liaising with managers regarding outcomes.
- Assisting with employee relations matters, including investigations and disciplinary processes.
- Supporting payroll administration and ensuring accurate employee data is processed.
- Producing HR reports, metrics, and recruitment analysis.
- Supporting statutory reporting requirements, including workforce census returns.
- Acting as a first point of contact for HR-related queries.
- Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring compliance with employment law and safeguarding regulations.
Essential Criteria
⚠️ This role is only suitable for candidates with previous UK school-based HR experience. Applications from candidates without education-sector HR experience will not be considered.
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous HR experience within a school, academy, college, or educational setting.
- CIPD qualification or equivalent HR experience.
- Strong understanding of employment law and HR best practice.
- Experience supporting safer recruitment and safeguarding procedures.
- Strong knowledge of maintaining and managing the Single Central Register (SCR).
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong IT skills, including Excel and HR systems.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English, Maths, and Science (or equivalent).

Desirable Criteria
- HR Management Degree or related qualification.
- Previous experience within a secondary school setting.
- Knowledge of School Workforce Census requirements.
- Experience supporting payroll administration.
- Familiarity with education-specific HR and MIS systems.
