HR & Payroll Support (iTrent Specialist) – Hybrid, Cardiff
12-month Fixed Term Contract
Eligibility & Requirements:
- MUST HAVE RECENT iTrent EXPERIENCE
- MUST BE ELIGIBLE TO WORK UNRESTRICTED IN THE UK
- MUST BE WILLING TO TRAVEL ONCE A WEEK TO CARDIFF (Cardiff-based hybrid support role)
We’re seeking an experienced HR & Payroll Support Officer with deep expertise in iTrent, payroll administration, and HR operations. This role combines core HR, payroll processing, and system administration—perfect for candidates who thrive in fast-paced environments with a mix of transactional, analytical, and advisory responsibilities.
About the Role
This 12-month contract offers a rare opportunity to work across the full employee lifecycle while providing technical and operational support to a busy HR department. The right candidate will balance payroll accuracy, system integrity, and HR guidance to ensure smooth operations for managers and employees alike.
Key Responsibilities
HR & Payroll Administration
- Manage full employee lifecycle tasks including recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, and succession planning.
- Oversee payroll processing, including accurate salary calculations, pension administration, salary sacrifice schemes, and handling employee queries.
- Maintain integrity and accuracy of HR & payroll records in iTrent, including double-checking data entry and managing system updates/migrations.

HR System Support & Data Management
- Conduct system tests, troubleshoot issues, and assist with iTrent upgrades or migrations while ensuring minimal disruption.
- Generate HR management reports, ad hoc data extracts, and comparative analyses to support decision-making.
HR Advisory & Employee Support
- Provide first-line HR advice and guidance on:
- Sickness absence, including absence tracking and management.
- Disciplinary procedures, grievances, and performance-related matters.
- Arrange employee learning & development initiatives alongside stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organisational policies.
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Regularly review and propose continuous improvements to HR and payroll processes.
- Ensure full compliance with UK labour laws, data protection (GDPR), and internal policies.
Ideal Candidate (Essential Experience)
- 3+ years of hands-on experience specifically with MHR iTrent (preferably both HR & Payroll modules).
- Strong foundation in HR systems administration, reporting tools, and data-driven problem-solving.
- Direct experience in payroll administration, including salary deductions, pensions, and employee benefits management.
- First-hand expertise with bulk updates, employee lifecycle actions, and transition support during system changes.
- Demonstrable ability to triagulate complex employee queries between payroll and HR (e.g.,-Marriage Allowances, Form P45/46s).
- Well-versed in jinth stakeholder management skills—capable of communicating technical challenges in plain language to line managers and employees.

Nice-to-Have Expertise
- Exposure to workforce planning tools or successor tracking features.
- Handling of insert UK elections or proxy setup within payroll/iTrent.
- Previous experience in global payroll operations with country-specific compliance aspects (bonus if you’ve managed UK vs. multi-national setups).
- Understand of data pseudonymisation approaches under GDPR.
