HR & Reward Consultant
We at Altair are growing our People and Recruitment Consultancy team and are looking for an ambitious HR & Reward Consultant who enjoys combining analytical thinking with practical client facing consultancy.
Whether you're leading pay benchmarking projects, advising on reward structures or helping clients solve wider workforce challenges, you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact across the social housing sector.
This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, values flexibility and wants to work with clients who are committed to improving services for their communities.
Home-based | Full-time (35 hours per week) | Occasional UK travel | Competitive salary
What you'll be doing
You'll work directly with clients to deliver high-quality consultancy projects, helping organisations make informed decisions about pay, reward and their workforce.
Your work will include:
- Leading pay benchmarking and market pricing exercises using recognised salary survey data.
- Advising clients on pay structures, grading and reward frameworks.
- Building and developing innovative benchmarking tools, including the use of AI and emerging technologies.
- Managing consultancy projects from planning through to delivery.
- Analysing complex workforce and reward data and turning it into clear, practical recommendations.
- Supporting and leading wider HR consultancy projects including workforce planning, organisational design and recruitment.
- Facilitating workshops and presenting findings to senior leaders.
- Building trusted client relationships and becoming a valued adviser.
- Contributing to business development, proposals, thought leadership and new service development.

About you
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent consulting and relationship-building skills.
You'll ideally have:
- A CIPD/ Reward qualification or equivalent.
- Experience in reward, compensation, pay benchmarking or HR consultancy.
- Excellent analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders and presenting complex information clearly.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
It would be great if you also have:
- Experience working within social housing, local government or the wider public sector.
- Knowledge of the challenges facing housing providers and the current regulatory environment.
- Experience of project management, business analysis or organisational change.
- An interest in using technology and AI to improve consulting and analytical processes.
