Internship Opportunity – Tactical Asset Allocation, Group Investment Management (GIM)
About the Role
The Group Investment Management (GIM) division oversees the €250bn proprietary investment portfolios of Munich Re and ERGO. Within Investment Strategies (GIM1.2), the Tactical Asset Allocation (TAA) department is responsible for constructing and refining the tactical asset allocations of the entire Munich Re Group.
The department blends quantitative and qualitative methods to adjust asset weights across all liquid asset classes, factoring in shifting political, economic, and market conditions. A structured approach balances granular tactical adjustments against the long-term strategic allocation (SAA).
We are offering a 6-month full-time internship starting September 1, 2026 for a candidate with strong quantitative and programming skills, particularly in data analytics.
Your Responsibilities
You will play a vital role in enhancing our portfolio decision-making:
- Develop methods and models for a structured analysis of capital markets, ensuring predictive accuracy through:
- Designing back-testing frameworks to evaluate covariance matrices
- Implementing methodological advancements in financial research
- Improving model risk forecasting capabilities
- Leverage cutting-edge technologies like:
- Azure Data Lake
- Databricks
- Lakehouse architecture
- Strengthen our proprietary portfolio analysis system through:
- Continuous improvement of analytical tools
- Automation of capital market and portfolio steering tools
- Participate in investment-focused projects contributing directly to strategic decisions

Your Profile – What We Look For
We seek a mathematics, science, IT, economics, or business management graduate with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills:
- Quantitative expertise, including:
- Statistics, financial mathematics, macroeconomic understanding
- Capital markets knowledge
- Strong programming proficiency, preferably in Python
- Data analytics and machine learning background is a major plus
- Top academic performance from a recognised institution
Important Note:
- Non-EU students must possess a valid German residence/work permit.
- The internship must not overlap with the start of the first degree’s final master programme.
