About the role

We have ambitious growth business plans at McCain, but we can't achieve those without our people. Our HR team play a huge part in driving our winning culture, and it's the role of our HR Specialist to get under the skin of the people behind the potatoes. This is a hybrid role, with three days per week based on site, giving you the balance of flexibility and the on-the-ground presence needed to really connect with our people.

As HR Specialist it's your job to work alongside your our people leaders across our Scarborough Manufacturing Plant to make McCain a great place to work. This covers many elements of HR including Employee Relations, Recruitment, and day-to-day HR Employee Lifecycle processes and compliance.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support our leaders and employees with employee and labour relations issues (which may include conducting investigations, managing appeals, addressing misconduct, issuing discipline, suspension and/or termination)

  • Manage employee movement and contract management. Including the updating of personal information
  • Share insights and trends with key stakeholders to drive more effective and efficient HR service delivery
  • Managing HR compliance e.g. right to work applications, GDPR storage, auditing requirements
  • Ensure the employee experience is at the centre of everything you do… identify, and implement Continuous Improvement activities, to enhance our HR Processes.

We are a team of connectedness – which means you will create impactful relationships between HR Specialists and our Global Employee Experience Centre to provide a world class service to our employees. And because we have a one team approach you will also have the opportunity to ‘chip in’ and partner with other departments outside of your normal business areas.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow their career in HR. We have a clear career path to HR Business Partner with opportunities locally… and globally. The ‘fries’ the limit at McCain!

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
