This is a field-based role with regular UK-wide travel, typically spending around three days a week on site or with stakeholders and two days working from home or an office, with occasional overnight stays as required.

We're looking for an experienced HSE and Assurance Manager to join our high-performing, multi-award-winning Health, Safety and Environment team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting BT Networks, providing expert assurance, governance and HSE leadership across one of the UK's largest and most critical infrastructure organisations.
As an HSE and Assurance Manager, you will provide professional health, safety, environmental and assurance support across BT Networks. Working closely with operational teams, engineers, managers and senior leaders, and contractors you will help ensure legal compliance, drive continuous improvement and support the delivery of strategic business objectives.
You will use your expertise to provide constructive challenge, support positive change and provide assurance that our arrangements, systems and controls are effective and fit for purpose.
What We Do
In BT Networks we design, build and run the best mobile and the best broadband networks for people at home and at work. The BT telecoms infrastructure across the UK is managed by BT Networks. Telephone exchanges, the EE mobile network, sub-sea and drone capability, Tech research plus the BT ERT (emergency response team) and the Field Engineering teams all sit within Networks. We also work with a large number of 3rd party M & E contractors to deliver our work in cooling, power and infrastructure projects throughout the UK.
What You’ll Be Doing
The Health, Safety & Environment Manager manages teams in technical, strategic, and administrative activities of the HSE function, ensuring regulatory HSE compliance, development of HSE systems, processes and programmes, enabling operational excellence and safeguarding employees and communities.
- Leads the implementation of BT HSE policies and BT Group behaviours through matrix teams and stakeholder networks, ensuring alignment with the wider business strategy.
- Coordinates the maintenance and implementation of local operating procedures with operational teams and stakeholders to meet the requirements of both the Group's HSE Integrated Management System and applicable legislation.
- Manages assigned initiatives contributing to the implementation a HSE continuous improvement plan and operational compliance programme.
- Provides leadership for the HSE function's reporting capability, working across matrix teams to develop management information and reporting that supports the Networks Risk, Business Assurance and Compliance management team expectations.
- Leads stakeholder activities that ensure Group stakeholders adhere to robust processes that exceed the minimum legal HSE compliance requirements within the operating countries in which BT operates, and establishes and embeds a HSE assurance programme to monitor legal compliance.
- Facilitates working partnerships and peer to peer relationships both within the function and across operations and wider stakeholders, to facilitate the achievement of objectives whilst promoting the best working practice and consistently high standards of HSE.
- Coordinates the necessary relationships with third parties, including Health, safety and Environmental: regulators, enforcement agencies and audit bodies, clients and customers to reduce risk and continually improve the Group’s HSE reputation.
- Coordinates activities that ensure all Group and Group supplier locations are risk profiled and that the risk profiling drives the HSE compliance monitoring and assurance programme.
- Promotes, continuously develops and shares knowledge within the team on emerging trends and changes in HSE.
- Supports and develops colleagues (or through matrix working) to build capability and drive performance through upskilling, development and recruitment.
- Conduct impartial Multi ISO Audits and produce reports including findings and consulted corrective actions.
- Implements ways to improve working processes within HSE.

- Nebosh National General Certificate (Level 3)

- NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
- Health, Safety and Environment management experience in the following areas:

- Management of contractors
- A good working knowledge/ experience of application of CDM
