Travis Perkins are seeking an exceptional HSE Business Partner to join our Group HSE team and play a pivotal role in shaping the safety culture and driving operational excellence across our merchanting network.
This is far more than a traditional compliance role. You'll be a trusted advisor to directors and managing directors, an enterprise leader within the HSE function and a key contributor to strategic safety decision-making across a complex enterprise network.

The Opportunity
As HSE Business Partner, reporting into the Head of Safety - Merchants, you will operate at a strategic level to provide comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) assurance, support and expert guidance to all levels of the business.
Your stakeholders will span from Branch Managers and Regional Directors right through to Business Unit Managing Directors. Backed by the support of an Assistant HSE Business Partner, you will own the incident investigation pipeline, lead behavioural safety assurance initiatives and champion regional or national improvement projects.
This role also includes dedicated responsibility as the technical subject matter expert for our primary distribution centre in Northampton.
What You'll Be Doing
- Incident Investigation & Just Culture: Overseeing the verification and investigation of Lost Time and SIN incidents with your Assistant HSE BP, ensuring root causes are identified and Just Culture principles are correctly applied.
- Incident Review Boards: Supporting business leaders at Incident Review Boards, providing technical guidance and ensuring key learnings are shared with the Head of HSE and HSE Director.
- Compliance & Reporting: Maintaining absolute oversight of internal and external reporting streams, ensuring incident systems remain updated and all RIDDOR requirements are fulfilled.
- Safety Assurance: Driving group-wide safety compliance by executing scheduled branch key risk and behavioural safety reviews.
- Targeted High-Risk Support: Providing proactive, hands-on intervention at higher-risk locations, collaborating with leaders to build and execute action plans that deliver safety excellence.
- Distribution Centre Ownership: Acting as the core technical safety expert for the Primary Distribution Centre in Northampton, including conducting regular monthly site visits.
- Data-Driven Insights: Reviewing safety metrics and assurance streams to generate high-quality insights that help executive leaders reduce operational risk.
- Executive Presentation: Developing monthly HSE overviews and presenting key safety data directly to Regional Managing Directors and Senior Leadership Teams.
- Strategy Implementation: Leading the development and rollout of national safety improvement programmes, applying local knowledge to ensure they land effectively.
- Colleague Forums & Coaching: Actively leading and participating in colleague safety forums to gather feedback, whilst delivering targeted HSE training and coaching across the business.

About You
You'll be an experienced, resilient safety leader who combines deep technical H&S expertise with excellent data analysis, commercial awareness, and senior stakeholder management skills.
Essential
- NEBOSH General Certificate with TechIOSH status (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 24 months post-qualification experience in a medium risk business as an HSE Manager or equivalent role.
- Proven experience delivering safety culture transformation and behavioural change programmes.
- Full legal and technical understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
- Outstanding communication skills, with a track record of effectively representing safety initiatives to both frontline colleagues and Regional Directors.
- Pragmatic problem solver who balances technical solutions with forward thinking ambition to drive positive change.
- Full UK Driving Licence and a willingness to travel regionally and to distribution sites.

We'd Particularly Like to See
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, alongside CertIOSH, CMIOSH, or an environmental qualification (such as IEMA membership).
- Experience working on improvement programmes related to vehicles, heavy plant, or Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Background in project management, change management and front-line environmental risk management.
