HSE Co-ordinator
HSE Coordinator – Fareham, Cyber Security & Digital Identity (CDI)
Location: Fareham, United Kingdom

The Role: HSE Coordinator
The HSE Coordinator will be a valued member of the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) department. Reporting into the HSE Manager, this role is responsible for driving and sustaining world-class HSE performance across operational teams. You will support the continuous improvement of Management System processes and enhance business performance through proactive HSE management.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Provide active HSE support to operational teams, identifying risks and implementing effective controls.
- Complete and review risk assessments, along with supporting incident/near-miss reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and preventative actions.
- Promote a strong safety culture through:
- Employee engagement initiatives
- Delivery of Health & Safety training across three-shift systems, including:
- Inductions
- Manual handling training
- Toolbox talks
- Fire management and drills
- Maintaining training matrices and health surveillance records
- Manage contractor HSE compliance, including:
- Review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
- Issuance of permits
- Required inductions
- On-site performance monitoring
- Conduct inspections and audits, ensuring:
- Follow-up of action items
- Support for ISO 14001 (Environmental), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), and ISO 50001 (Energy Management) compliance
- Audit readiness and closure
- Maintain HSE systems and records, including:
- Incident logging and action tracking
- Compliance dashboards
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) management
- Reporting tools
- Support HSE initiatives and Net Zero programmes, contributing to effective communication, including:
- Facilitating HSE committee meetings
- Ensuring best-practice standards across Thales UK sites

Skills and Experience Required
Essential:
- Proven experience in Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- NEBOSH certification (or equivalent)
- Clear understanding of HSE legislation and practical ability to implement risk-reduction controls
- Good appreciation of environmental impacts and methods to minimise negative effects
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisational abilities and problem-solving focus
- Attention to detail for hazard identification and investigation reporting
- A formal qualification in Health & Safety Law would be advantageous
Desirable:
- Experience auditing or compliance in regulated industries
Security Clearance Requirement
Due to the sensitive nature of Thales’ work, this role requires:
- Basic Personal Security Standard (BPSS) clearance before starting employment.
- Maintenance of Security Clearance (SC) as a conditions of ongoing employment.
- Eligibility for full SC typically requires being a UK resident for at least five of the last seven years. Additional checks may apply for those with shorter residency.
