HSE Operation Support

Position: HSE Operations Support

Location: Prysmian Cables & Systems Ltd, Wrexham Plant – 100% Factory-based

Reporting to: QHSE Manager


About the Role

This role is critical for actively supporting the Plant QHSE Manager in ensuring a safe, compliant, and continuously improving work environment. The HSE Operations Support serves as a hands-on, visible presence on the shop floor, enforcing safety and environmental standards, supporting compliance, and empowering a proactive safety culture.


Key Responsibilities

1. On-the-Ground Safety Support

  • Conduct daily walk-throughs and inspections of manufacturing/workshop areas to identify and address hazards.
  • Immediate response to safety incidents, unsafe acts, or near misses with on-the-spot intervention where required.
  • Proactively coach employees on proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use and adherence to site safety rules at all times.

2. Training, Coaching & Communication

  • Deliver on-the-job safety and environmental training, including toolbox talks and briefings for employees and contractors.
  • Foster strong communication of good safety practices and reinforce HSE rules across the site.
  • Support safety campaigns and promote shared vigilance among teams.
  • Coach supervisors in managing HSE responsibilities within their teams.

3. Incident & Risk Management

  • Act as a core member of incident response teams for safety/environmental emergencies, including:
    • Gathering facts and conducting initial incident investigations.
    • Supporting root cause analysis.
    • Collaborating on corrective actions and monitoring their implementation.
  • Participate in working groups to conduct and document risk assessments (e.g., manufacturing, logistics, maintenance).
  • Drive the follow-up and implementation of risk mitigation measures.

4. Regulatory & Administrative Support

  • Assist with HSE data reporting and maintain accuracy of dashboards/updates for documentation including:
    • COSHH assessments
    • Safety Work Instructions
  • Support chemical inventory management, helping maintain compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., UK COSHH, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other standards).
  • Take part in audits, internal inspections, and emergency drills.

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Propose and lead HSE project improvements with new safety or process enhancements.
  • Champion the development and innovative HSE practices within the factory.

Key Relationships

  • Primary collaboration with production teams on the shop floor.
  • Engages effectively with the QHSE team to reinforce and amplify factory-level safety progress.

Required HSE Profile & Competencies

Technical Skills

  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes and safety equipment.
  • Proficient in HSE standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001) and risk assessment tools (e.g., HAZOP, MIRA, fire/vapor dispersion calculations).
  • IT proficient with platforms including Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and Teams.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education (equivalent to a relevant HSE-related degree/certificate), or two years’ direct experience in HSE or comparable roles.
  • Fundamental knowledge of HSE obligations, risks, and mitigation tools.
