The HSEQ Director for Water Hygiene Division is responsible for establishing and leading the division's Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality strategy, governance framework and culture.

The role holds ultimate accountability for ensuring the business operates safely, responsibly and in compliance with all relevant legislative, regulatory, contractual and certification requirements. The postholder will provide strategic leadership and direction across all HSEQ disciplines and ensure that risk management, assurance and continual improvement are embedded throughout the organisation.

As a member of the Water Hygiene Senior Leadership Team, the HSEQ Director will influence organisational strategy, support business growth, protect the Company's people and reputation and ensure HSEQ considerations form an integral part of operational and commercial decision-making.

What You’ll Be Doing

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement the Water Hygiene Division HSEQ strategy and long-term roadmap and work with the Group HSEQ Director and other Divisional HSEQ Directors to actively contribute to the creation and delivery of the Group HSEQ objectives.
  • Establish Water Hygiene Division HSEQ objectives aligned with the Groups HSEQ objectives and Company's strategic plan.
  • Provide leadership and direction across all HSEQ disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain a positive organisational culture that prioritises safety, compliance and continual improvement.
  • Ensure HSEQ considerations are fully integrated into business planning, growth initiatives and operational decision-making.
  • Act as the lead Water Hygiene Division sponsor for HSEQ transformation and improvement initiatives.

Governance & Risk Management

  • Align to, and deliver for, the Group HSEQ governanace framework, establishing and maintaining an effective HSEQ governance framework for Water Hygiene Division.
  • Ensure robust arrangements exist for identifying, assessing and managing business risks.
  • Oversee corporate risk registers and significant risk management programmes as required.
  • Ensure effective reporting, escalation and management of significant HSEQ issues.
  • Maintain oversight of business continuity and crisis management arrangements.
  • Ensure the business division has suitable systems and controls to manage compliance obligations.

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Hold overall accountability for the Water Hygiene Division health and safety performance.
  • Lead the development and implementation of health and safety policies, standards and procedures for Water Hygiene Division and actively participate as required across Group.
  • Provide strategic direction regarding incident prevention, risk reduction and behavioural safety initiatives.
  • Lead the management of significant incidents and investigations.
  • Represent the business during interactions with regulators, enforcement authorities and external agencies.
  • Ensure appropriate arrangements exist for occupational health and wellbeing.

Quality, Assurance & Management Systems

  • Hold Water Hygiene Division accountability for the effectiveness of the Company's Integrated Management System.
  • Provide strategic direction for quality, assurance and governance activities.
  • Ensure effective arrangements exist for internal assurance, audit and compliance monitoring.
  • Receive independent assurance from the Head of Quality & Assurance regarding management system effectiveness.
  • Sponsor continual improvement initiatives and organisational learning programmes.

Environmental Leadership

  • Support the development and implementation of the Groups environmental strategy and objectives, taking leadership for the Water Hygiene Division actions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the Water Hygiene Division sustainability initiatives and environmental improvement programmes in line with the direction of the Group ESG team.
  • Promote responsible environmental practices throughout the organisation.

Compliance & Regulatory Affairs

  • Ensure the Company maintains compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory obligations for Water Hygiene Division and the wider Group as required.
  • Maintain oversight of changes in legislation, standards and industry best practice.
  • Ensure appropriate compliance arrangements are implemented and maintained.
  • Act as Water Hygiene Division lead for regulatory inspections and enforcement activity.
  • Ensure lessons learned are effectively implemented across the business.

Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, develop and inspire the Water Hygiene Division HSEQ function.
  • Build a high-performing team and succession plans.
  • Coach and mentor leaders and managers across Water Hygiene Division and Group.
  • Develop HSEQ capability and competence across all areas of responsibility.
  • Promote accountability and ownership of HSEQ responsibilities at all levels.

Business & Commercial Leadership

  • Support Water Hygiene Division acquisitions, integrations and organisational change initiatives.
  • Conduct HSEQ due diligence on acquisitions and strategic opportunities.
  • Ensure HSEQ risks are appropriately considered within commercial decisions.
  • Contribute to tender submissions and strategic customer relationships.
  • Protect and enhance the Company's reputation with clients, regulators and external stakeholders.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the Water Hygiene Division senior representative on all HSEQ matters.
  • Build effective relationships with regulators, certification bodies, clients and industry bodies.
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
  • Present HSEQ performance, risks and assurance findings to senior stakeholders.
  • Work with other departments, such as HR, to support HSEQ performance standards are met.

What We’re Looking For

Experience

  • Significant senior leadership experience within Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality functions.
  • Experience leading HSEQ strategy within a complex, multi-site organisation.
  • Proven experience developing governance frameworks and managing organisational risk.
  • Experience of advising executive teams and influencing strategic decisions.
  • Experience managing significant incidents and regulatory interactions.
  • Experience leading and developing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience presenting at Executive and Board level.
  • Experience leading organisational change and continual improvement initiatives

Qualifications and training

Essential

  • Degree-level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Risk Management, Business Management or related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification.
  • Level 6 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • Professional membership of a recognised health and safety body, with the ability to demonstrate senior professional competence.

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice or similar.
  • Degree or Master's qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management or Business Leadership.
  • CMIOSH or equivalent professional standing.
  • Lead Auditor qualifications in ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001.
  • Chartered status within a recognised quality, environmental or risk discipline.
  • Executive leadership qualification, MBA or equivalent senior management qualification.
