HSQE Advisor – UK & Ireland

The Position

The HSQE Advisor will provide consistent, relevant support in Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) matters across all UK and Ireland business units, with a focus on Development and Construction.

You’ll work with every UK-based value-stream to set and deliver balanced business objectives—ensuring -cost-efficient HSQE practices that comply with industry standards and legislation.


Key Accountabilities

  • Support the Lead HSQE Manager, ensuring UK & Ireland HSQE performance meets good industry practice and legal requirements.
  • Deliver HSQE advice to operational teams.
  • Conduct internal and supplier audits while promoting continuous improvement and exemplary HSQE adherence.
  • Review and provide feedback on risk assessments, policies, procedures, methods statements, and training materials.
  • Analyse HSQE trends from incidents, audits, and site inspections, with actionable suggestions.
  • Perform monthly on-site HSQE inspections (frequency may vary by risk profile).
  • Investigate incidents and coordinate investigations.
  • Prepare briefing materials for workshops and facilitate sessions with outcomes documentation.
  • Actively engage with contractors, suppliers, and clients to uphold standards.
  • Review and select suitable training (internal and external).
  • Help with competency requirements and HSQE training programme alignment.
  • Generate regular reports for the Lead HSQE Manager.
  • Assess supplier HSQE management systems as part of pre-qualification.
  • Lead by example, championing an excellent HSQE culture and challenging negative behaviours.
  • Streamline processes, method statements, and work instructions, ensuring clarity with just-in-time communication.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK & Ireland HSQE legislation, including:
    • Health & Safety (Officer)
    • Environmental regulations (SEPA, NIEA, EA)
  • Quality audit experience (e.g., UKAS approved or equivalent).
  • Industry awareness:
    • Renewables sector and construction processes.
    • Understanding of behavioural safety programmes.

Essential Skills

  • Independent and collaborative work, balancing individual research with team alignment.
  • Clear communication—written and spoken—able to present structured, balanced content tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Consult with regulators, clients, contractors, and suppliers fostering strong relationships.
  • Read and apply standards (e.g., from HSE, SEPA, EA, NIEA).
  • Make fast, informed decisions based on analysis and judgement.

Work Experience & Background

  • Direct experience in the renewables sector or construction industry.
  • Willingness to leverage expertise from manufacturing/operations settings.
  • Audit experience (internal or supplier audits).
  • Hands-on experience with HSQE and environmental management systems (implementing, developing, or improving).
  • Comfort guiding on-site (and office-based) teams, embedding HSQE best practices.

Other Attributes

  • Willingness to travel and occasional unsocial hours for site commitments.
  • Loyal, collaborative, and committed to the organisation.
  • Passionate about driving improvements in HSQE.
  • Full UK & Ireland driving licence (must meet no minimum).
  • Essential ability to:
    • Work across construction and operation sites (including climbing/zome visits subject to training).
