HSQE Advisor – UK & Ireland Operations

About the Role
The HSQE Advisor will provide expert support and guidance on health, safety, quality, and environmental (HSQE) matters across RES’s UK and Ireland Development & Construction units.
This role is key to shaping business objectives, balancing HSQE excellence with cost efficiency for a safer, greener operation.
Accountabilities
- Support the Lead HSQE Manager to ensure RES’s HSEQ performance reflects industry best practice, compliance with all UK & Irish legislation, and company policies.
- Provide strategic HSQE advice, ensuring consistent standards across UK & Irish projects.
- Conduct audits and inspections (typically monthly on-site; frequency adjusted based on risks).
- Assist in developing HSQE management systems that drive continuous improvement and a strong HSQE culture, driving commercial advantage.
- Review and comment on business documentation, including:
- Risk assessments
- Procedures & method statements
- Training materials
- Analyse HSQE trends from incidents, audits, and inspections, presenting findings and actionable recommendations.
- Prepare and facilitate workshops/briefings on HSQE matters.
- Engage contractors and clients to promote shared HSQE responsibility.
- Select and review training organisations and programmes (internal & external).
- Define competency requirements and support HSQE workforce development.
- Generate regular reports for the Lead HSQE Manager.
- Evaluate supplier HSQE systems during pre-qualification.
- Champion exemplary HSQE behaviours and challenge weak practices across the organisation.
- Collaborate with project teams, simplifying processes and ensuring clarity in workflows and communications.

Key Qualifications & Skills
Knowledge & Expertise
- Minimum qualification: NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.
- Legal expertise: Strong understanding of UK & Ireland Health, Safety, and Environmental laws.
- Audit training: Hold a UKAS-approved quality audit qualification or equivalent.
- Industry knowledge: Familiar with the renewables or construction sectors.
- Familiar with behavioural safety programmes.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Effective stakeholder communication (regulators, clients, contractors, suppliers).
- Relationship-building to create trust and collaboration across internal and external teams.
- Clear, structured written/verbal communication (adapted to audience needs).
- Ability to interpret standards from external bodies (e.g., HSE, SEPA, EA, NIEA).
- Strong decision-making based on analysis, risk assessment, and judgement.

Experience Required
- Proven experience in the renewables/construction industry.
- Ideally have on-site manufacturing or operations experience, or experience from high-hazard environments.
- Hands-on experience with internal/external audits.
- Prior experience implementing and developing QHS&E management systems.
- Experience in engaging and developing HSQE knowledge across site teams, contractors/suppliers.
Other Attributes
- Travel-ready: Willing to spend time on-site and occasionally work outside standard hours.
- Passionate about advancing HSQE culture, with a collaborative, committed mindset.
- Full UK & Ireland driving licence: Safe, current licences required.
- Physically capable of working in construction environments (including climbing wind turbines after completing required safety training).
