Job Description
HSS Unix/Linux System Administrator
Location: Manchester or Gloucestershire (on site 5 days per week)
Due to security vetting requirements, candidates must be eligible for or currently hold clearance. Candidates must be sole UK national/British citizen and resided in the UK for 10 years and over.

At DXC, one of our platinum accounts has openings for Unix/Linux System Administrators at varying skill levels. The successful candidate will work within multiple teams and will be innovative and analytical with a good eye for detail. Your role will include implementing standards, policies, and procedures for continual service improvement.

Role Responsibilities
- Provide first and second level technical support on incidents and problems
- Monitor overall system performance and ensure smooth system functionality
- Create, maintain, and utilize documentation
- Assist building compliance with processes and policies
What You Will Bring To The Team
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- Working to ITIL best practices
- Desire to improve processes, looking for the root cause of a problem
- Willingness to both share your knowledge and learn from others
- A proactive approach towards looking for risks and problems
Desirable Skills And Technologies
- Proficiency in UNIX/Linux systems (Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, AIX, etc.)
- Shell scripting (Bash, KornShell, etc.)
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef
- Process and job control (cron, at, systemd timers)
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, FTP)
- Filesystem management (LVM, ext4, XFS, ZFS)
- Performance tuning and monitoring (top, vmstat, iostat, sar, netstat)
- Exposure to automation software such as Ansible/Puppet
- Knowledge of scripting with Bash, Python, and/or Git
- Experience of AWS
- Automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Virtualization and containers (KVM, VMware, Docker, Podman)
