Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist provides professional HR support across the employee lifecycle, ensuring HR policies, procedures, and practices are applied consistently and in line with employment legislation and organisational objectives. The role supports recruitment, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, HR administration, and employee wellbeing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Coordinate end-to-end recruitment activities, including advertising vacancies, screening applications, arranging interviews, and preparing offer documentation.
  • Manage pre-employment checks, references, right-to-work verification, and onboarding processes.
  • Support hiring managers throughout recruitment campaigns and ensure a positive candidate experience.
  • Deliver and coordinate induction programmes for new employees.

Employee Relations

  • Provide first-line advice and guidance to managers and employees on HR policies and procedures.
  • Support employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, capability, and performance matters.
  • Assist with investigations, note-taking, and the preparation of HR documentation.
  • Promote a positive employee relations culture and support conflict resolution where appropriate.

HR Administration

  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR systems.
  • Produce contracts of employment, variation letters, and other HR correspondence.
  • Monitor probationary periods and ensure timely reviews are completed.
  • Prepare HR reports and management information as required.

Learning and Development

  • Support the identification of development needs and opportunities across the organisation.
  • Evaluate learning initiatives and assist with employee development programmes.

Performance and Attendance Management

  • Support managers with performance review processes and objective setting.
  • Monitor attendance levels and assist with absence management procedures.
  • Provide advice on policies relating to sickness absence, flexible working, and wellbeing.

Policy and Compliance

  • Ensure HR practices comply with employment legislation, organisational policies, and best practice.
  • Contribute to the review and development of HR policies, procedures, and guidance documents.
  • Support audits and compliance activities relating to HR records and processes.
  • Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and employee wellbeing initiatives.

Essential

  • Previous experience in a Human Resources or People Services environment.
  • Sound knowledge of HR processes and employment legislation.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and HR information systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Desirable

  • CIPD Level 3 or Level 5 qualification (or working towards).
  • Experience supporting employee relations casework.
  • Experience using HR and payroll systems.
  • Knowledge of recruitment and talent management practices.
