Human Resources Administrator
Human Resources Generalist – Professional 1 (Excluded)
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Human Resources Advisor, the Human Resources Generalist administers HR activities for non-academic and academic unionized and non-unionized employee groups.
Acts as a resource person to managers, employees, and academic administrators in the Faculty of Education on issues related to:
- Human Resources policies
- Procedures
- Collective agreements
Processes a variety of business processes on Workday including:
- Talent acquisition
- Benefits
- Employment life cycle
- Leaves
- Compensation and payroll
- Terminations and retirements
Primary Responsibilities

Administrative Support
- Provide HR support to managers and employees, with respect to:
- Daily HR policies and procedures (all employee groups)
- Maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders
- Act as a primary resource on issues involving HR policies, procedures, and interpretation of collective agreements
- Consult with Human Resources Advisors on complex cases
- Provide HR support to managers and employees, with respect to:

Workday Administration
- Serve as a Workday expert for all Education Faculty units
- Submitting, reviewing, and approving HR processes
- Ensuring efficient tool functionality
- Knowledge sharing to streamline HR processes
- Serve as a Workday expert for all Education Faculty units

Employee Life Cycle Management
- Facilitate a seamless onboarding and offboarding experience by verifyying completion of all steps
- Develop and maintain accurate organizational charts
- Monitor probation and trial periods, following up with new hires, transfers, and temporary employees

Compensation and Work Permits
- Administer compensation-related processes
- Monitor work permit documentation and follow-ups for timely renewal
- Liaise with Immigration Advisor as needed

Recruitment and Hiring
- Oversee faculty recruitment, including:
- Posting preparation and submissions
- Application reviews and ranking
- Interviews and offer creation
- Hire new administrative and support staff

Leave and Absence Administration
- Act as Absence Partner for the Faculty:
- Administer and provide information on:
- Disability leave
- Maternity/paternity leave
- Parental (including extended parental and adoption) leave
- Unpaid leave
- Ensure correct processes and documentation
- Calculate vacation entitlements and Summer Fridays for full-/part-time employees
- Administer and provide information on:
- Prepare grievance and disciplinary documentation
- Liaise with Labour Relations to meet deadlines
- Act as Absence Partner for the Faculty:

Reporting and Record-Keeping
- Recognize and recommend solutions to HR challenges
- Maintain accurate, consistent, and transparent records
- Document staff training needs
- Compile HR statistics and prepare reports
- Support Recruitment Coordinators with training programs

General Duties
- Participate in keyword training
- Engage in special projects
- Plan and organize meetings
- Assist with backfill or overlapping duties
Other Qualification Skills and Abilities
- Experience: Demonstrated HR environment experience (preferably in academia or university)
- Policy Knowledge: Familiarity with university HR policies and collective agreements preferred
- Attention to Detail: Client-focused role with strong attention to detail
- Problem-Solving: Solutions-oriented with robust decision-making and escalation skills
- Soft Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Collaboration with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to multitask and adapt in fast-paced environment
- Technical Competencies
- Workday, Visio, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Languages:
- English (certified at Level 4)
- Knowledge of French is an asset

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Education: DEC II or better (McGill minimum)
- Experience: 3 years related experience
- Salary Range:
- $63,350.00 – $85,710.00 annually
- McGill Classification:
- MPEX-HRM1D (excluded position)
- Hours:
- 33.75 hours per week (full-time)
