HR Business Partner (Contractor) – Restructuring Programmes
About the Role
VirtualResource (VR) is a boutique consultancy supporting companies with HR Transformation and optimisation of their HR operating model, processes, and systems.
We are seeking experienced HR Business Partner contractors to support a number of restructuring programmes across the UK and internationally. These are hands-on delivery roles requiring deep expertise in organisational change, with the ability to work at pace in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
You will act as a trusted partner to senior business leaders, providing expert HR counsel and end-to-end support throughout the full lifecycle of restructuring activity—from planning and consultation through to implementation and closure.
Key Responsibilities
Restructuring Project Management
- Support leaders with organisational design and validation against agreed principles (e.g., spans and layers)
- Deliver employee impact assessments
- Produce consultation materials based on centrally developed resources
- Engage with HR Country Heads globally to support local delivery
- Train leaders on consultation processes and assessment & selection (A&S)
- Support the opening of both collective and individual consultation and ensure compliance in other markets in partnership with local HR
- Manage HR Q&A and counterproposals throughout the consultation period
- Facilitate the assessment & selection process, utilising a Power App to support the process
- Manage closure of consultation
- Manage appeals
- Ensure the issue of appropriate notifications and update HRIS accordingly

Restructuring & Employee Relations
- Lead collective consultation processes in compliance with UK employment law and, where applicable, local legal requirements in other markets
- Support leaders in developing and refining their proposals in readiness for consultation
- Oversee both collective and individual consultation processes, ensuring a fair, consistent, and legally compliant approach
- Manage TUPE obligations if they arise
HR Advisory & Business Partnering
- Act as the primary HR contact for senior stakeholders throughout change programmes, providing pragmatic, commercially-minded guidance
- Utilise centrally developed materials, templates, and guidance to support consistent and compliant delivery in both the UK and global markets
- Work closely with legal counsel, employee relations specialists, and in-country HR teams as required
Requirements
Essential Experience
- Proven track record of delivering complex restructuring and redundancy programmes end-to-end (either in the UK or across multiple geographies)
- Deep knowledge of UK employment law, particularly collective consultation, redundancy, and individual consultation obligations
- Experience training and coaching line managers through consultation and assessment & selection processes
- Familiarity with HR systems (ideally Workday) and comfort using digital tools to support process delivery
- Experience operating at an HR Business Partner (HRBP) level, influencing Director-level and above stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work at pace
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and embedded within a client team

Desirable Experience
- Experience of UK or global/multi-country restructuring programmes, including engagement with HR Country Heads and in-country legal advisers
- Familiarity with works council obligations and international employment law considerations
- Previous interim or contractor experience in a similar HRBP or HR Transformation role
- CIPD qualified (or equivalent) – desirable but not essential
Assignment Details
- All roles are fully remote; some may require one day per week on-site attendance in London.
- As this is a remote role, you must be based in the UK and have the legal right to work there without needing a visa (now or in the future).
