HR Business Partner – Edinburgh (Hybrid)
About the Role Bright Ascension is a fast-paced, innovative software development company for the space industry, transforming how systems are built, faster and more reliably. With global clients—from research institutions to startups—we pride ourselves on employee ownership, shared success, and growth across Dundee, Edinburgh, and Bristol.
We’re seeking an experienced and dynamic HR Business Partner to support our strategic expansion. Reporting to the Head of People, this role will act as a trusted advisor, aligning HR practices with commercial goals while fostering a high-performing, inclusive culture.
Based in Edinburgh (hybrid), the ideal candidate will drive employee engagement, compliance, and workplace innovation—shaping the future of Bright Ascension alongside a diverse, ambitious team.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations
- Advise leadership on disciplinary proceedings, grievances, and performance issues
- Ensure UK employment law compliance and adherence to company policies
- Proactively address workplace challenges to enhance the employee experience
HR Operations & Projects
- Support policy development, HR system implementation, and process optimisation
- Utilise HR data and analytics for evidence-based decision-making
- Lead initiatives towards continuous operational improvement
Performance Management
- Oversee goal-setting, reviews, and employee development planning
- Collaborate with teams to enhance performance outcomes

Learning & Development
- Identify training needs alongside leadership
- Design and implement leadership development programs
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and skill-growth
Employee Engagement & Culture
- Lead or co-ordinate engagement surveys, surveys, and action plans
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion while embedding company values
- Coach managers on emotional intelligence and people management
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience as an HR Business Partner, HR Manager, or equivalent
- Deep knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices
- Hands-on experience supporting managers in fast-growing businesses
- Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills
- Ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism
Personal Traits
- Proactive problem-solver with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Outstanding communication and cross-level relationship-building
- Adaptability, resilience, and comfort in a high-growth, dynamic environment
- Passion for fostering inclusive and values-driven workplace cultures
Desirable (but not compulsory)
- Technology sector experience
- CIPD Level 3+ qualification (or currently studying)
- Experience supporting scaling or rapidly growing organisations
- Familiarity with HRIS software and analytics tools
