I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a blend of practical HR experience, strong communication skills, and a commercial mindset. While CIPD Level 5 qualification or above is desirable, it is not mandatory if you demonstrate substantial experience and a proactive approach to HR consultancy. Candidates should have a proven track record advising business owners or directors directly, rather than solely internal HR teams. A background working with SMEs across various sectors will be advantageous. Additionally, familiarity with psychometric assessment tools, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the confidence to handle sensitive cases are essential. A valid driving license and own transport are preferred, as occasional client site visits are part of the role.

- Occasionally visit client sites across Suffolk and the UK to provide on-site support and build strong relationships.
- Stay informed of employment law updates and HR best practices to ensure clients receive current and relevant advice.
