Role Description
The Human Resources Director will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all HR functions across Discovery Trust’s schools and central teams. This part-time, on-site role is based in Leicester and involves designing and implementing HR policies, ensuring compliance with labor and employment law, and advising senior leaders on workforce planning and organisational development. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing employee relations, guiding performance management processes, supporting recruitment and retention strategies, and promoting an inclusive, values-led culture. The Human Resources Director will work closely with school leaders and trust executives to ensure consistent HR practices, manage HR projects and change initiatives, and use data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated expertise in Human Resources (HR) strategy and operations, including experience leading HR functions in complex, multi-site or education settings.
- Strong knowledge of HR Policies and procedures, with the ability to develop, implement, and regularly review trust-wide policies that support equity and compliance.
- Proven experience in Employee Relations, including conflict resolution, case management, and supporting a positive, collaborative working environment.
- Advanced skills in Performance Management, including designing frameworks, coaching leaders, and supporting professional growth and accountability.
- Solid understanding of Labor and Employment Law, with the ability to interpret legislation, manage risk, and provide clear, practical advice to leaders.
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g., CIPD or equivalent) and a degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships at all levels of the organisation.
- Experience in change management, workforce planning, and using HR data and metrics to support strategic decisions.
- Commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and the values of Belonging, Ambition, and Equity, with an understanding of the education or public sector context.
