HR Consultant / HR Specialist / HR Advisor / People Advisor / HR Generalist / Senior Employee Relations Advisor After Athena HR Consultancy - Part of Napthens Group Full time permanent, hybrid working with some regional travel across the northwest. Liverpool office base at The Plaza, Old Hall Street. Our other offices include Blackburn, Preston, Lytham, Southport and Manchester. Salary + Bonus Scheme + Excellent Benefits (28 days holiday, Pension scheme, Health, and wellbeing) Are you an experienced HR professional who enjoys tackling complex matters head-on? To be clear this is not an in-house HR role. In this role, you’ll be providing independent, impartial HR support to a range of clients—often onsite—guiding them through sensitive and complex ER issues. You bring confidence, sound judgment, and a calm, practical approach to challenging situations. You’ll be a trusted advisor, sometimes in a supporting capacity and at other times as the key decision-maker. Your ability to assess situations objectively and apply policy with clarity and consistency will be essential. You can also get involved in delivering training to management teams, helping to build their confidence and capability in handling people matters effectively. While the core of the role is ER-focused, there will be opportunities to contribute to wider HR projects that support the employee lifecycle. If you’ve previously worked as an external advisor or in a shared services or case management role, and you’re looking for a role where your experience and independence are truly valued, we’d love to hear from you. Any accreditations for things like mediation or coaching would also be advantageous. You are someone who is diplomatic, resilient, and comfortable working with clients at all levels—always maintaining a professional distance while building strong working relationships. We also think a sense of humour is an essential ingredient in this HR recipe. The majority of our team are based in Lancashire and now we are looking to expand our presence in Merseyside. AfterAthena provide employment law advice combined with HR and health and safety services to help employers alleviate people pressures. Whether you’re a business owner going it alone or a HR professional managing a team, we’ve got your back. AfterAthena brings together legal expertise and strategic brilliance to help you manage risk, stay compliant, and lead with confidence. Our advice is always human, practical, and available when you need it. We provide solutions, investing in protecting your people and your business, no matter the size. Interested? For more information or an informal confidential conversation about the role, contact Daniel on 07425 797 217 (Call, Text, or WhatsApp).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
