HG Walter is an independent, family-run butcher established in 1972 by Peter Heenan in West London. Now one of the UK’s most respected butchers, we serve top chefs and restaurants alongside loyal retail and home customers. Our mission: to provide exceptional food through quality meat, sustainable supply chains, and responsible farming practices.
About the Role
We seek an experienced Human Resources Manager to join our dynamic team, supporting a 240-employee butchery and food production business. This hands-on, operational role focuses on employee relations, policy management, compliance, and day-to-day people support, ensuring all HR processes align with employment legislation.

Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Advisory
- Manage disciplinary, grievance, absence, and performance management cases.
- Provide practical HR advice to managers and employees.
- Ensure alignment with employment law, food industry regulations, and company policies.
HR Operations
- Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee records.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and probation processes.
- Monitor absence and attendance management.
Systems & Reporting
- Liaise with payroll to ensure accurate employee data.
- Prepare HR reports and maintain HR systems/documentation.
- Assist with internal audits, validating HR record accuracy.

Requirements & Qualifications
Experience & Knowledge
- Previous role as HR Manager or Senior HR Advisor.
- Strong grasp of employment law and HR best practice.
- Proven ability to handle employee relations independently.
- Understanding of manufacturing, food production, or FMCG environments (advantageous).
Skills
- Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced operational settings.
Certifications
- CIPD Level 5 (qualified or equivalent) – essential.
- CIPD Level 7 – desirable but not mandatory.
