HR Manager – Leading Development and Planning Consultancy – Built Environment – Central London
We are delighted to be partnering with a leading employee-owned consultancy operating within the planning and development sector of the built environment to recruit an experienced HR Manager. This role would involve leading the day-to-day HR function, driving operational excellence, and supporting the delivery of the organisation’s people strategy. Reporting to the Executive Director of People, you will lead a HR team while partnering with senior leaders to develop a high-performing, commercially focused people function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the HR team, providing coaching, guidance and clear performance objectives.
- Manage complex employee relations, absence management and performance cases, ensuring best practice and legal compliance.
- Oversee the end-to-end recruitment process, improving candidate experience and recruitment effectiveness.
- Drive continuous improvement across HR processes, policies and systems.
- Take ownership of HRIS management, reporting, workforce data and people analytics.
- Oversee payroll governance, benefits administration and support the implementation of a new payroll provider.
- Partner with senior leaders to provide commercially focused HR advice and workforce planning.
- Develop management capability through coaching, training and practical HR guidance.
- Ensure compliance with UK employment legislation and internal governance standards.
- Produce regular people metrics and insights to support strategic decision-making.

About You
- Proven experience in a senior HR generalist, HR Manager or similar leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law, with extensive experience managing complex employee relations matters.
- Experience leading and developing HR teams while providing commercially focused advice to senior stakeholders.
- Confident managing HR systems, people data, reporting and driving continuous improvement across HR processes.
- Experience overseeing payroll governance and working closely with Finance to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to align people initiatives to business objectives.
- Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence and challenge senior leaders.
- CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent experience); Level 7 is desirable.
- Experience within a professional services, consultancy, architecture, engineering or similar knowledge-based environment would be advantageous.
