LSTC Group, a leading specialist within the SOCOTEC Group, is looking for a passionate HV Cable Design Engineer to join our growing team and help shape the energy networks of tomorrow!

What You'll Do:

As an HV Cable Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality underground cable solutions for major transmission and distribution projects across the UK. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you will develop innovative, safe, and cost-effective designs from concept through to detailed engineering.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design HV cable systems: Deliver concept, feasibility and detailed designs for underground cable systems in accordance with BS EN, IEC, National Grid, DNO, CIGRE and ENA standards.
  • Perform engineering studies: Undertake cable sizing, current rating (CYMCAP), thermal, EMF, induced sheath voltage, earthing, cable pulling and interface studies to ensure technically robust designs.
  • Develop cable routes: Cable route walkover survey, produce cable routing studies, assess engineering constraints, and optimise routes considering constructability, environmental impact, planning requirements, and project costs.
  • Prepare engineering deliverables: Produce high-quality design reports, calculations, technical specifications, drawings, construction packages, and other project documentation.
  • Support project delivery: Work closely with Project Managers, Civil, Structural, Protection and Substation Engineers to ensure integrated engineering solutions are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders: Participate in technical meetings, present engineering solutions, respond to client comments and build trusted relationships throughout project delivery.
  • Provide technical support during construction: Attend site visits, surveys and inspections, respond to technical queries, review contractor submissions, and support design changes during construction.
  • Drive engineering excellence: Ensure all designs comply with quality assurance processes, CDM Regulations, ESQCR, health & safety requirements and company procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement: Share technical knowledge, and help improve design processes, standards, and best practices across the business.

Qualifications

What You Bring:

Essential:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent qualification/experience)
  • Technical expertise in transmission voltage underground cable systems or transferable experience
  • Proficiency in CYMCAP or similar design software
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to juggle priorities
  • Knowledge of CDM & ESQCR legislation
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset

Desirable:

  • Experience with AutoCAD/MicroStation
  • Understanding of multi-discipline projects and design interface management
