We are looking for an experienced High Voltage Commissioning Engineer to support a programme of transmission and distribution substation projects across Scotland.
The initial project will involve the commissioning of a 132kV AIS switchgear installation for a new Network Rail grid connection, with additional substation projects to follow.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission 132kV substation plant and equipment in accordance with approved commissioning procedures and client specifications.
- Carry out commissioning of AIS switchgear, including:
- Functional checks
- Interlocking verification
- Control and protection interface testing
- Operational proving
- Undertake:
- Primary and secondary injection testing
- CT/VT polarity and ratio checks
- Wiring verification
- Point-to-point testing
- Perform SCADA, RTU and control system interface testing to support successful energisation.
- Review commissioning documentation, drawings, protection schematics and test schedules, identifying and resolving technical issues where required.
- Support:
- Outage planning
- Switching programmes
- Energisation activities (in conjunction with the client and network control)
- Produce:
- Commissioning records
- Test documentation
- Handover packs (in line with project and client requirements)
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with:
- Relevant safety rules
- Site procedures
- Permit systems

Essential Requirements
- Demonstrable experience commissioning HV transmission and distribution substations.
- Strong background in:
- Commissioning 132kV AIS switchgear
- Protection and control systems
- Associated primary plant
- Experience with:
- Protection schemes
- Control circuits
- Auxiliary systems
- Substation automation/SCADA interfaces
- Ability to:
- Interpret:
- Single line diagrams
- Protection drawings
- Wiring schematics
- Commissioning documentation
- Interpret:
- Current Scottish Power authorisations, including:
- Competent Person
- AMESS (Access, Movement and Egress from Substations)
- AWP-09 (Working on Live Plant)
- Full UK driving licence.
