Project Manager (HV/EHV) - UK Transmission and Distribution Team

Join WSP’s UK Transmission and Distribution team as a Project Manager (HV/EHV).
Our T&D (Transmission and Distribution) team delivers electrical power projects at voltage levels ranging from 33kV to 400kV. In this role, you will:
- Project manage pre-construction and construction activities—from design to energisation—for large-scale high-voltage infrastructure and grid connections.
- Lead feasibility studies, detailed design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning on existing or new substations and associated infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities

Solve real-world challenges:
- Develop high-voltage (HV) projects (up to and including 20kV) into compliant and cost-effective engineering solutions from initial functional requirements.
- Project-manage small/medium HV projects (cable, plant, civil)—ensuring delivery on time, cost, safety, and quality.

Interface and collaborate:
- Work directly with customers as well as internal and external stakeholders to deliver HV projects seamlessly.
- Take on the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV projects.

Coordinate resources:
- Effectively communicate with engineering and industrial teams.
- Arrange and administer external service providers and commercial activities.

Required Skills & Experience

Education:
- Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent recognisable qualification.

Experience (minimum 2 years):
- Hands-on experience working on HV substation projects.

Technical expertise:
- Understanding of electrical substation components, including:
- Distribution plant items operations
- Controls and associated systems such as switchgear, protection, power transformers, and underground power cables.
- Understanding of electrical substation components, including:

Compliance awareness:
- Good knowledge of H&S (Health & Safety) and CDM (Construction (Design and Management) Regulations).
- The ability to take on the role of ‘Designer’ or ‘Principal Designer' under CDM regulations.

Technical ability:
- Proven ability to interpret technical documentation for electrical substation design.

Operational flexibility:
- Willingness to travel as required for project needs.
