Location & Classification
- Primary site: On-site at a customer facility near Reading, Berkshire, UK (remits periodically for other HPC sites in Europe).
- Requirement: Must be eligible for UK Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS/UK DV) security clearance (at least ‘Basic Office’ level).
About the Role
Bull’s High-Performance Computing, AI & Quantum Business Unit seeks a Hybrid Hardware & Software Support Engineer to join our HPC Services team—a high-visibility customer-facing operational role.
You’ll bridge computing, storage, and networking layers to ensure large-scale, secure HPC infrastructures perform flawlessly in critical environments. Prior HPC experience is helpful but not mandatory—strong Linux system ‘swiss-army knife’ skills will be put to use in live environments, with room to grow into the domain.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deployment & Build-out
- Install and optimally configure HPC cluster components (powerful CPUs, GPU acceleration, ultra-high-speed storage).
- Deploy, verify, and test full-system integration (compute/storage/networking) to operational readiness.
- Apply device-specific patches,räkovdisc+labs management system updates, and conduct beneficiary health checks.
2. Hybrid Hardware & Software Support
- Provide tier-1 & tier-2 operational support for high-end Python algorithms, Linux-orchestrated containers (Docker/Podman), and workflow orchestration systems.
- Diagnose/conceive/complete fixes for issues in:
- Linux systems (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu), clusters (MPI/PBS Pro/WSL), and integration environments
- Server hardware failures (CPU/memory/bonded-fibre drives)
- High-request, low-latency backend interconnects (InfiniBand, RoCE/RoCEv2, PCIe NVLink)
- Massive-scale distributed storage (targets: Ceph, Sc живежergic NA/B+LUFFFFS)
