Hydraulic Specialist – Clean Water & Wastewater Treatment Modelling
Location: Hybrid (Primarily London, City of, UK – office base in Croydon) Role: AECOM (World’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm) Business Line: Water

With growing demand for clean water solutions, we’re seeking a Hydraulic Specialist to join our dynamic Water team and drive impactful projects.
About the Role
We’re looking for a senior technical leader to:
- Design and validate hydraulic models for clean water and wastewater treatment plants.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver HADES modelling for UK-based projects.
- Expand expertise into broader treatment and civil infrastructure design.
Your work will directly influence sustainable water solutions, fast-tracked by global infrastructure investment.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Develop and calibrate HADES models for treatment plant infrastructures.
- Run hydraulic scenarios, analyse results, and refine design solutions.
- Prepare technical reports, documenting assumptions, methodologies, and uncertainties.
- Collaborate with engineers, clients, and project teams to deliver on schedule and budget.
- Provide hydraulic design insights for gravity/pressure pipe systems and civil structures (weirs, flumes).
- Support project management systems (budget tracking, progress updates).

Client & Team Engagement
- Present findings to clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Engage with local government, private sector, and water utilities on facility designs.
Requirements & Qualifications
Must-Have
- Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline).
- A sound grasp of open-channel hydraulics (subcritical/supercritical flow, hydraulic jumps).
- Proven experience in:
- Designing hydraulic structures (weirs, flumes).
- Developing hydraulic models for treatment plants (independent and multi-scenario).
- Gravity/pressure pipe design for robust infrastructure.
- Chartership (CIWEM/ICE) or eligible.
- Strong technical reporting skills (clear, client-focused narratives).
- Self-motivated with adaptability, commitment, and problem-solving drive.
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Experience with HADES modelling.
