Project Hydrogeologist – London or Newcastle
SLR is a global leader in sustainability solutions, driving environmental impact through collaborative, people-first work.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Project Hydrogeologist to join our Hydrogeology & Water team, delivering high-profile water environment and hydrogeological assessment projects.
About the Role
Based in [London or Newcastle], this position specialises in hydrogeological site investigations, water monitoring, and hydrogeological assessments, with opportunities to engage in groundwater abstraction licensing, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and broader earth science projects (e.g., minerals, waste, renewables, property, infrastructure).
Ideal for professionals with 1–3 years of experience.
Your Responsibilities
As a Project Hydrogeologist, you will:
Core Deliverables

Lead and manage site works, including:
- Conducting site walkover surveys
- Supervising borehole drilling
- Performing geological logging
- Installing groundwater monitoring wells and hydrogeological testing
- Managing groundwater/surface water level and quality monitoring programmes

Develop geological and hydrogeological Conceptual Site Models (CSMs) and interpret data.

Assist with hydrogeological risk assessments and impact appraisals, including:
- Analysing monitoring data
- Completing hydrogeological calculations
- Undertaking groundwater modelling
- Compiling technical reports

- Contribute to EIA water chapters, including:
- Assessing hydrogeological risks
- Presenting findings in regulatory submissions
Collaboration & Growth
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including Environmental & Earth Sciences, Planning, ESIA, and Engineering.
- Partner with Global Advisory to deliver complex, high-impact projects.
- Gain exposure to European and international projects.
Ideal Candidate: Requirements
We seek a motivated professional with:
- 1–2 years of hydrogeological experience in consultancy or a commercial setting.
- A degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field, plus membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., Chartered Geologist).
- Practical experience in:
- Hydrogeological site investigations
- Groundwater and surface water monitoring
- Risk assessments and hydrogeological impact appraisals
- Groundwater abstraction licensing (preferred)
- EIA water chapters (desirable)
- Strong skills in:
- Data interpretation and modelling (including MODFLOW, MIKE SHE, or similar tools—desirable).
- Technical reporting and communication.
- Problem-solving and team collaboration, independency learning.
- A valid UK driving licence for fieldwork and site visits.
