About the Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Hygiene Operative to join our Hygiene Team at Kara, within the Finsbury Food Group.
For over 35 years, Kara has supplied delicious wholesale bakery products across the UK, starting with our first floured bap and expanding into a diverse portfolio including brioche, buns, and speciality breads. As part of the wider Finsbury Food Group, we are committed to ensuring our bakeries operate to the highest hygiene and food safety standards every day.
About the Role
As a Hygiene Operative, you will play a vital role in ensuring our production site remains clean, safe, and ready for operation. You will work across all production areas, following strict hygiene procedures and maintaining exceptional standards that help us consistently meet customer and audit expectations.
Meeting hygiene targets on time and in line with food safety, legality, and health & safety standards is essential to the success of this role.
What You’ll Actually Do

- You will carry out physical, hands-on hygiene duties, including deep cleaning tasks and shutdown cleans where required (training provided). Some high-level and industrial cleaning may be involved depending on skills and training.
- You will complete all hygiene and compliance paperwork accurately and on time, ensuring due diligence is maintained at all times.
- You will work to tight schedules, follow safe systems of work, and maintain good housekeeping and “clean as you go” practices throughout your shift.
- You will also work closely with your team, communicating effectively and supporting colleagues to meet hygiene targets while demonstrating company values at all times.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
