Greencore Desserts, based in Devizes, Wiltshire, specialises in chilled desserts such as tarts, yum yum balls, doughnuts, pies, and pastries. The site employs over 550 people and is one of three factories part of the Bakkavor Desserts sector in the UK.
About the Role
This Hygiene Section Manager role involves leading and managing a team of Hygiene Operatives, ensuring effective cleaning processes and maintaining high hygiene standards. The primary focus is on upholding food safety compliance while facilitating the seamless handover of operations daily.

Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Proactively manage workplace safety to ensure compliance with Group Health & Safety policies.
Hygiene Standards
- Lead and enforce hygiene standards through regular audits of cleaning processes, ensuring compliance with business and customer requirements.
Performance Management
- Manage the performance of team members, including direct reports, via appraisals and implement disciplinary actions as necessary when required.
Training & Development
- Develop and coach employees through training to ensure competence and continuous improvement within the business.
Performance Improvement via KPIs
- Drive performance improvements by setting and challenging KPIs, tracking progress, implementing PIPs (Performance Improvement Plans), and identifying areas for efficiency gains.
Resource Management
- Optimise labour and material resources to meet short- and long-term objectives.
Communication
- Facilitate clear, open communication within the team and across functions, ensuring everyone is informed of business updates.
Recruitment & Supervision
- Participate in hiring processes to build a skilled workforce and supervise direct reports effectively.

Requirements
- Ability to analyse information logically, draw sound conclusions, and implement effective solutions.
- Comfortable effectively managing change within cost, quality, and time constraints.
- Strong influence and persuasive skills to drive results across teams.
- Clear, adaptable communication—written and verbal—to engage diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and develop long-term employee potential while addressing underperformance.
- Fluency in PC applications, including intermediate skill in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Understand the business functions and their interdependencies.
