- Contract: Full Time
- Salary: £42,000 - £45,000
- Contracted Hours: 42
- Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off (days & nights)
About the Role
Established in 1997 as the first manufacturer of sushi for the UK supermarket industry, Taiko has evolved into the most innovative manufacturer of Sushi, Food To Go, Prepared Meals and Snacking products in the UK, supplying retailers such as Waitrose, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s.
Over the past 25 years, Taiko has launched more first-to-market products than any other sushi manufacturer in the UK. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a passionate and experienced Hygiene Shift Manager to:
- Lead hygiene operations
- Maintain the highest standards across our manufacturing facility
- Develop teams and drive food safety and hygiene excellence
This role requires a proactive leader, confident in leading within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You’ll thrive in collaborative settings and understand the significance of operational excellence while building strong, trusting relationships across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and develop the shift hygiene team to complete all cleaning schedules effectively.
- Driving Hygiene Excellence:
- Continuously improve hygiene standards, procedures, and practices in line with legislation, customer requirements, and industry best practice.
- Process Support:
- Assist engineering teams during planned preventative maintenance.
- Support production teams with line start-up following deep cleans.
- Team Development:
- Deliver training and develop team capability to maximise flexibility and performance.
- Vendor Collaboration:
- Work closely with chemical suppliers to optimise cleaning processes and foster innovation.
- Inter-Team Relationships:
- Build strong relationships with Production, Engineering, Quality, and New Product Development (NPD) teams to ensure effective communication.
- Audit Compliance:
- Respond to audit findings and complete corrective actions within agreed timescales.
- Prepare and present hygiene documentation (training records, chemical data sheets) during customer audits and visits.
- Support Audits:
- Assist with announced and unannounced customer audits, ensuring full readiness.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure adherence to Quality Management Systems and Health & Safety procedures.
- Team Culture:
- Create a positive, engaging, and high-performing team culture.

Person Specification & Requirements

Skills & Attributes:
- Proven leadership experience in hygiene or food manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene legislation.
- Exceptional collaboration and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work on a rotational basis (4 on, 4 off over days and nights).
- Commitment to operational excellence and compliance.
