Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Commissioning Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Commissioning Engineer to support the commissioning of control and instrumentation systems on a major Energy from Waste (EfW) facility. You will be responsible for the safe execution of commissioning activities, ensuring all instrumentation and control systems are tested, validated, and handed over in accordance with project requirements, industry standards, and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute commissioning activities for instrumentation and control systems in line with the project programme.
  • Carry out loop checks, functional testing, cause and effect testing, and system commissioning.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with electrical, mechanical, process, and DCS teams.
  • Review P&IDs, loop drawings, control narratives, and vendor documentation.
  • Support the commissioning of field instrumentation, control valves, PLCs, DCS, and package plant control systems.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and control issues during commissioning and support system fault finding.
  • Complete commissioning documentation, test records, and handover packages.
  • Participate in commissioning meetings and provide technical support to resolve issues.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are carried out safely and in accordance with project procedures and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Instrumentation, Control, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in I&C commissioning on power generation, Energy from Waste, process, or industrial projects.
  • Good understanding of industrial instrumentation, PLCs, DCS, and process control systems.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, control schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with loop checking, functional testing, and commissioning procedures.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous commissioning experience on an Energy from Waste or power generation plant.
  • Experience with major DCS platforms and control systems.
  • Knowledge of SIS, BMS, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with commissioning management systems and documentation tools.

Details

  • Start: Mid September - 12 month duration
  • Schedule: 5 days a week 10 hours a day, During Hot commissioning 10 days on 4 days off.
  • Outside IR35 - All in Daily Rate
  • Right to work in the UK required
