ICT Technical Architect - Cambs

Technical Architect (Enterprise Architecture) – Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) ICT

Location: ICT Headquarters, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire Contract: Permanent, Full Time H înt deterior: Head County Police Revenue Support (HPR)

Salary: £48,309 with a Market Rate Supplement of £15,178.69 (taking total base salary to £63,487.69) Hours: 37 hours per week

Cambridgeshire Constabulary is seeking a skilled, motivated, and forward-thinking Technical Architect to join our Enterprise Architecture team within the collaborative BCH (Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire) ICT Department.

This is more than just an architecture role—it’s a chance to work at the forefront of modern policing technology, shaping how critical systems are designed, secured, and delivered to support front-line officers and operational services.


The Role

Reporting to the Principal Technical Architect, you will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering secure, resilient, and scalable technology solutions across a diverse portfolio of major change initiatives, including local digital transformation, regional platforms, and national policing systems.

  • Develop target architecture and solution designs aligned with business and operational needs, balancing:
    • Performance
    • Scalability

    • Security
  • Work across complex, integrated technology landscapes, ensuring solutions are:
    • Coherent
    • Supportable
    • Aligned with enterprise and national standards

Stakeholder & Delivery Support

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor, guiding:
    • Delivery teams
    • Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
    • Suppliers
    • Stakeholders (including initiatives outside formal governance)
  • Support the adoption of innovative and emerging technologies to enhance policing capability and efficiency

Autonomy & Decision-Making

  • Operate with delegated authority to:
    • Make solution-level architectural decisions
    • Analyse technical constraints
    • Resolve complex design challenges
    • Actively manage technical risk to ensure robust, supportable, and aligned solutions
  • Ensure technology delivers real operational value, improving resilience and supporting critical services that keep communities safe

Must-Have Experience & Skills

  • Broad technical knowledge with a passion for learning and continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills, able to engage and influence:
    • Technical stakeholders
    • Non-technical stakeholders (e.g., senior leadership, procurement teams)
  • Ability to work:
    • Independently (with autonomy)
    • Collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Proven experience in:
    • Architecture design
    • Systems integration
    • Delivering complex technical solutions

Advantageous but Not Mandatory

  • Experience in complex, security-focused, or highly regulated environments

Additional Information

Travel & Vetting Requirements

  • The role supports services across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire, so the ability to travel is required.
  • Appropriate vetting clearance will be required.
